About us

Fincaloe

Our Aloe vera plants are cultivated using entirely organic methods. We rely on natural sunlight, nutrient-rich soil, mountain water, and compost/mulch sourced from the Finca's garden. We strictly avoid synthetic fertilizers or pesticide products and address weed abundance by incorporating them into our composting system. Fortunately, we are supported by organic farming volunteers (WWoofers) who contribute to a global movement dedicated to promoting ecological farming and sustainability practices.

Our Aloe vera plants thrive in the rugged terrain and steep slopes of the old Axarquia, which were once used for cultivating Moscatel vineyards. The Aloe leaves are meticulously harvested by hand and can be utilized for natural cosmetics and dietary supplements by end-users. We choose not to process them extensively to preserve their properties and avoid the use of additional packaging or preservatives.

In 2021, we embarked on an organic certification program in collaboration with the CAAE of Granada, to obtain the EU organic certificate and label.

Breaking Free: Embracing a healthier, natural lifestyle

Like many of us, I used to find myself entangled in the relentless and fast-paced "rat race" of life. The daily grind left me feeling drained, stressed, and disconnected from the world around me. However, everything changed one day when I stumbled upon the incredible benefits of Aloe vera.

One sunny afternoon, as I strolled through the Aloe vera plantation of my dad, Eric. He shared with me the reason behind his decision to cultivate this remarkable plant: its multifaceted potential for health and beauty, specifically its inner gel. My dad explained how Aloe vera had long been a trusted companion in our Spanish home, serving as a versatile remedy for various ailments.

Listening to my dad's anecdotes about Aloe vera's remarkable benefits filled me with wonder and curiosity. Inspired by this newfound knowledge, I embarked on a journey to uncover the many facets of this incredible plant. As I integrated Aloe vera into my daily life, I experienced its profound positive impact on my well-being. My skin radiated with newfound health, consuming the gel left me feeling more energized, and I found solace in the plant's soothing and beautifying properties. It was as though Aloe vera had revealed a hidden treasure trove of wellness and vitality that had always been within my reach.

Motivated by my dad's teachings and my deepening connection to nature, I made the bold decision to liberate myself from the grip of the rat race that had consumed so much of my life. I yearned to prioritize my health and fully embrace a more natural way of living. In addition to using Aloe gel fresh from the leaves daily, I discovered the joy of crafting my own skincare products, adopting eco-friendly alternatives, and supporting local, organic farmers.

A New Chapter in Life

In 2019, I moved from Belgium to Spain to embark on a new chapter in life. A life that embraced a natural and back-to-basics lifestyle.

I stumbled upon an authentic Finca dating back to 1830, offering a picturesque view of the Mediterranean and a stunning 10-hectare plot adorned with ancient trees, including almonds, carobs, grapes, and olives. Despite my lack of prior gardening knowledge, I found inspiration in the pages of two books: "Jadam Organic Farming" (which offers insights into ultra-low-cost agriculture) and "Miyawaki Method - Mini Forest Revolution." While wandering through the garden of the Finca, I came across approximately 300 Aloe vera plants, including Aloe Barbadensis Miller and Aloe Arborescens.

Many of my neighbors were engaged in the cultivation of avocados and mangos, practices that demanded copious amounts of water and focused on monoculture. However, I felt compelled to chart a different course, though I held great sympathy for the local farmers.

Soon, a clear vision of my project took shape. I initiated an organic Aloe vera plantation with the dual purpose of financing the reforestation of the 10 hectares with native trees such as Algarrobo (carob tree) and almond. In just three years, the plantation has thrived and now boasts 10,000+ Aloe vera plants, while our tree-planting efforts are also underway.
